Begin with the End

By February 7, 2019No Comments

Beginning with the end in mind has several very practical benefits.

For one, it keeps us focused on the life we want to create. Even with a clear and compelling WHY to life, life is filled with distractions. It’s easier to say no to alternative routes and destinations if we are clear about where we are going.

Not only that, it also allows us to take control of our circumstances rather than letting our circumstances control us. People who don’t have a sense of direction are often more reactive than proactive.

If we don’t begin with the end in mind, the only other option is to get in the car and just start driving.

Doing so, we may or may not find the right path.  We might be lost and not know it.  It will take longer to get to our destination, if we get there at all.  Or even worse, we might be lost and think we are is where we are supposed to be.

How do you begin with the end in mind?

For some people, they have found it beneficial to write down their preferred future, be it a relationship or career. The mere act of writing it down helps take the abstract and make it concrete.

Other people have created vision boards — or story boards — covered with pictures of the life they intend to create. This helps them visualize why they are doing what they are doing.

Find what works for you then do it.

Spending a few minutes (or days) defining the end will not only save time in the long run, it will save you a lot of headaches and heart aches.
